And it’ll also improve the quality of your sleep. In other words: you sleep quicker and deeper. Put one or two cloves (including peel) under your pillow and you’ll notice the effect. It sounds a bit strange that such a powerful and distinct odor can be calming, but lots of people swear it works.
One of the ways it might help is that the smell can clear blocked nasal passages and therefore improve breathing. Anyone who has tried to fall asleep with a pesky head cold knows how uncomfortable it is when you can’t draw a proper breath. But you may find that you get sick less often when you sleep with garlic under your pillow because allicin found in Garlic is thought to block two groups of enzymes responsible for the ability of infectious microbes to invade and survive in your body.

7. IT HAS MAGNESIUM.
Before we dive into what magnesium is and what it does to the body, here’s one thing that you should remember: our body systems are linked to one another, meaning that if one system functions off course, all the other systems may be affected as well.
This essential mineral is well-known for its relaxing, sleep-promoting, disease-protecting and stress-reducing properties. In general, magnesium has a major role in the body.
It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps the heart beating steady, strengthens the immune system, regulates blood glucose levels and many others.
Did you know that one clove of garlic has approximately 7.5 milligrams to 13.5 milligrams of magnesium when crushed? Just imagine how much your magnesium would boost by adding 3 cloves to your diet every day. Unfortunately, not many people are informed that magnesium levels have a relation with our sleeping patterns and behavior. Being it one of the 24 crucial vitamins and minerals that our body needs to function properly, having less-than-normal levels of magnesium may just cause our body systems to function off course, which also means that there’s a greater risk for other chronic health issues.
8. IT’S A GOOD BUG REPELLENT.
If just smelling garlic doesn’t do the trick for you, try eating some before bed – only if your spouse agrees! You can try telling him or her that the odor helps to repel bugs, the last thing anyone wants in their bed.
There hasn’t been a lot of scientific research into the subject of garlic and sleep, but we know that it contains a fair bit of magnesium and potassium, two minerals that play a key role in quality slumber.

Garlic makes a powerful natural toxic insect repellent. The natural repellent nature of garlic makes it a perfect tool for keeping pests off plants. Garlic water is simple to make and easy to administer. It can be used on vegetables or on flowering plants. keeping garlic under your pillow will avoid mosquitoes and spider bites. mosquitoes attract carbon dioxide when we exhale so eating garlic doesn’t seem to be as effective if u want to repel insects.
One word of caution:-
If you have pets, garlic is toxic to dogs and cats. You probably don’t want to leave any cloves under your pillow when you’re not in bed, just in case.
A small amount of garlic in food swiped off your plate is probably not a big deal, but a whole clove could make your furry friend quite sick.
In any case, it is most effective for sleep to use a fresh clove of garlic under your pillow every night. Garlic offers a ton of health benefits, whether you eat it or sleep with it. Perhaps you’ll want to do both. Whether or not you are a big believer in folk remedies, many people who struggle with sleep have found success using garlic.
